SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS & INSTALLATION

See the Alert Manager 4.7 Product Guide for
details on system requirements and how to
install the product. The Product Guide is
available for download from the McAfee web site
or on the product CD.

RUNNING ALERT MANAGER 4.7 WITH VIRUSSCAN 4.5.1
AND NETSHIELD 4.5

Alert Manager 4.7 can receive alerts from
VirusScan 4.5.1 or NetShield 4.5. Configure
these client anti-virus applications to send
alerts to an installation of Alert Manager 4.7
just as you would configure them to send alerts
to past versions of Alert Manager. See your
VirusScan or NetShield product documentation
for details on configuring alerting.

However, McAfee does not support installing
Alert Manager 4.7 on the same computer where
one of these older versions of VirusScan or
Netshield is installed. On the computer where
you install Alert Manager 4.7, you should also
uninstall the older versions of VirusScan or
NetShield and install VirusScan Enterprise 7.0
instead.

USE ALERT MANAGER 4.7 AS THE ACTIVE DIRECTORY
DEFAULT

Only one instance of Alert Manager may be
published as the default in an Active Directory
domain. Other installations of Alert Manager in
the Active Directory domain automatically
forward any alerts they receive to the
default.

If a default already exists in the Active
Directory domain, and you attempt to publish a
second Alert Manager as the default, the second
Alert Manager will not be published in Active
Directory at all. To change the default Alert
Manager in the Active Directory, first
uninstall the existing default Alert Manager
before installing and publishing the new
default Alert Manager.

If you use Active Directory and are planning to
install VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 on your
network and have it send alerts to Alert
Manager, be sure the default Alert Manager in
the Active Directory is version 4.7. VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 cannot send alerts to old
versions of Alert Manager, such as 4.5 or 4.6.
So, even if you configure VirusScan Enterprise
7.0 to send alerts to an instance of Alert
Manager 4.7, if that Alert Manager is in the
Active Directory it will automatically forward
alerts to the default. If the default Alert
Manager is version 4.5 or 4.6, it will not be
able to receive the alerts generated from
VirusScan Enterprise 7.0.

KNOWN ISSUES

1. In the most current Release Candidate 1
release of the Windows Server 2003 (formerly
known as Windows .NET Server) operating
system, the Messenger service is disabled by
default. To use the Alert Manager Network
Message alerts on a Windows Server 2003, you
must first start the Messenger service.
Refer to your operating system documentation
for information on how to do this.

2. When uninstalling a clustered Alert Manager
server on a Windows NT cluster, the Alert
Manager cluster services may remain in a
pending offline state. To complete the
uninstall, first reboot the active computer
to allow the services to go offline. Then
uninstall Alert Manager on the remaining
   computer.

3. Alert Manager cannot send alerts to a
printer if the printer name contains spaces.
You can add the printer to the alert
recipient list, but Alert Manager cannot
actually send the alerts to the printer.

4. If an instance of Alert Manager is already
published to the active directory and set as
   the default, attempting to publish
subsequent Alert Managers to the Active
Directory as the default during installation
will cause them to not be published to the
   Active Directory at all.
