=====================================================

   McAfee Installation Designer 7.1.0 RC

=====================================================

Thank you for using McAfee Installation
Designer(TM) software. This file contains
important information regarding this release.
We strongly recommend that you read the entire
document.

   IMPORTANT:
McAfee Security strongly recommends that you
use any pre-release software (beta or
release candidate) in a test environment
only. Pre-release software should not be
   installed in a production environment.

McAfee Security does not support automatic
upgrading of a pre-release version of the
software. To upgrade to a later beta
release, a release candidate, or a
production release of the software, you must
first uninstall the existing version of the
   software.

NEW FEATURES

- McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 support.
- McAfee Desktop Firewall 8.0 integration
McAfee Installation Designer 7.1 allows you
   configure and include McAfee Desktop
   Firewall in an installation package.
- Optimized installation packages
   McAfee Installation Designer 7.1 integrates
FEAD Optimizer technology which allows you
   to create and decompile optimized
   installation packages. An optimized
   installation package is significantly
   smaller than a compressed installation
   package.

INSTALLATION AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Please see product documentation for complete
information regarding installation and system
requirements.

_______________________________________________
RESOLVED ISSUES

1. Error message, "This feature requires
Administrative privileges. You will not be
able to edit current settings. Please
   contact your system administrator for
   rights"
You may have received this error if you used
a configuration file from an installation
   package created with McAfee Installation
Designer, and later attempted to configure
the recipients of the Alert Properties
dialog box accessed from the Alert Manager
   Properties dialog.
2. When you deleted the "Scan all fixed disks"
task on the "Scheduled Scans" dialog box,
and you selected "Perform a system scan
   after installation" on the "Post
   Installation Options" dialog box, the
installation of this package caused an error
to appear at the end of installation. Note
   that the installation completes successfully
however, and the error does not affect the
   functionality or operation of VirusScan.
_______________________________________________
KNOWN ISSUES

1. Error message, "Internal Error 2356
   Cabs.w1.cab"
This error occurs when you attempt to
   install VirusScan Enterprise from an
Installation Designer modified package to a
target computer that already has VirusScan
   Enterprise installed.
When deploying to target computers that are
   already running VirusScan Enterprise,
   Network Associates recommends deploying a
settings file rather than an entire
   installation package.
However, if it is necessary to deploy an
   entire installation package to computers
   already running VirusScan Enterprise, you
   must first uninstall VirusScan Enterprise
   before installing the Installation Designer
   modified package.

2. Multiple .CAB files with different languages
should not be packaged in the same
   PKGCATALOG.Z file.
3. When DAT files that are newer than those in
the AutoUpdate repository are added to a
   customized installation package, the DAT
files are downgraded to whatever version is
accessible to AutoUpdate 7.0 when AutoUpdate
initiates. You must download the entire DAT
package (2.5 MB transfer per client).
Therefore, administrators need to make sure
the AutoUpdate repository contains DAT files
that are the same version to or newer than
the DAT version you are including in the
   customized installation package.
4. When you determine a destination on the
"Additional Files" dialog box for the files
you select to install on the destination
computers, the destination drive letter must
exist on the destination computer. An error
will generate and the application will not
install on the destination computers that do
   not have such a drive.
5. Before running McAfee Installation Designer
on Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, make sure
that the software restriction policies do
not apply to local administrators. For more
   information, see
   http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;324036&#8
6. McAfee Desktop Firewall settings cannot be
deployed with a settings (.CAB) file onto
   computers that run VirusScan Enterprise
   7.0.
7. To create an optimized installation package,
a minimum of 256 RAM is required. If
   optimization fails, increase the virtual
memory page size. This may resolve the issue
   (especially on computers running Microsoft
   Windows NT 4.0).
8. For this beta release, McAfee Installation
Designer 7.1 cannot include an EXTRA.DAT
file in the installation packages it creates
or modifies. This issue will be resolved
prior to the RC release of McAfee
   Installation Designer 7.1.
9. If you attempt to create an optimized
   installation package including VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 with Alert Manager 4.7,
McAfee Desktop Firewall 8.0 and the
VirusScan Enterprise 7.1 Service Pack, the
optimization process fails. When creating a
package with this set of programs, you must
   create an un-optimized installation
   package.
10. The .MSP file cannot be applied to
   VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 installation
packages modified by this beta of McAfee
   Installation Designer 7.1. McAfee Security
is attempting to resolve this issue by the
   final release of the product.
11. Although McAfee Desktop Firewall will
install on all versions of Microsoft Windows
2003 Server, it is not supported on any
   version of this operating system.
