Common Management Agent version 3.0.363
===============================================

Thank you for using McAfee Update Manager
software. This file contains important
information regarding this release. We strongly
recommend that you read the entire document.

   IMPORTANT:
McAfee strongly recommends that you use any
   pre-release software (beta or release
candidate) in a test environment only.
Pre-release software should not be installed
   in a production environment.

McAfee does not support automatic upgrading
of a pre-release version of the software. To
upgrade to a later beta release, a release
candidate, or a production release of the
software, you must first uninstall the
   existing version of the software.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS BETA RELEASE

For this beta 1 release, the McAfee Update
Manager console requires one of the following:

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 with Microsoft
Internet Explorer 6.0 as originally released
(no patches).

Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000
with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 as
originally released or with Service Pack 1 for
Internet Explorer.

The cumulative patch for Internet Explorer is
not supported in this beta release.
______________________________________________
KNOWN ISSUES

1. For this beta 1 release, to run the McAfee
Update Manager console on Microsoft Windows
NT 4.0, you must be running Microsoft
Internet Explorer version 6.0 WITH NO
   additional Microsoft patches. Running the
McAfee Update Manager console on a Microsoft
Windows NT 4.0 server or workstation with
the SP1 patch or cumulative patch for
Internet Explorer 6.0 causes script errors
and instability in the McAfee Update Manager
   console. Microsoft has confirmed this
   problem with these Internet Explorer
patches, and we are working with them to
   resolve this issue.

2. For this beta 1 release, to run the McAfee
Update Manager console on Microsoft Windows
2000 or Microsoft Windows XP, you must be
   running Microsoft Internet Explorer version
6.0 with no additional Microsoft patches, or
with the Service Pack 1 patch for Internet
Explorer. Running the McAfee Update Manager
console on a Microsoft Windows 2000 or
Windows XP server or workstation with the
cumulative patch for Internet Explorer 6.0
causes script errors and instability in the
McAfee Update Manager console. Microsoft has
confirmed this problem with this Internet
Explorer patch and we are working with them
   to resolve this issue.

3. You may experience intermittent script
errors while running the McAfee update
Manager console. These errors can usually be
dismissed to allow you to continue.

4. McAfee Update Manager does not currently
validate site credentials during the site
   creation process. Confirm that the
   replication and download credentials you
plan to use are valid before creating new
   sites.

5. McAfee Update Manager does not support .NET
server environments in this beta 1 release.

6. Exporting a site list to ePolicy
Orchestrator 2.0 is not supported in this
beta 1 release. Attempting to export the
site list to an ePolicy Orchestrator 2.0
server fails and reports "Error code -1410
   (Unable to find root node)".

7. Exporting a site list to ePolicy
Orchestrator 2.5 or 2.51 servers that use NT
   Authentication for console to database
communication fails and reports "Error code
-1407 (Failed to add user to ePO user
group)". A workaround for this problem is to
   install an ePolicy Orchestrator remote
console on the same computer where McAfee
   Update Manager is installed.

8. Replication to NetWare FTP sites is not
supported in this beta 1 release.

9. The McAfee Update Manager console currently
supports only English platforms. This does
not affect the ability to distribute updates
   to computers running the VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 beta release on non-English
   platforms.

10. The McAfee Update Manager console does
   not consistently display newly added
   information immediately. Pressing the f5
key to refresh the console after resolves
   this problem.

11. Site names or site paths containing
   extended characters or double byte
characters are not supported in this beta 1
   release.

12. In this beta release, you may experience
intermittent delays of 15 to 30 seconds when
modifying the McAfee Update Manager Site
List. Actions such as adding, deleting, or
promoting sites, or making modifications to
a site configuration are situations where
   you could see this delay.

13. The software license management feature
of McAfee Update Manager is not functional
   in this beta 1 release.

14. In this beta 1 release, adding software
on a network share to the McAfee Update
Manager software repository can result in an
error "Failed to upload file: -602" if the
currently logged on account does not have
access to that that share without providing
   secondary authentication. Copying the
software to a local drive resolves this
   problem.

15. When creating a site, do not include
"ftp://" or "http://" as part of the
   address. Including protocol information as
part of the address results in an error
   "Failed to upload file: -602".

16. Selecting the "Use the same proxy server
for all protocols" option when creating a
proxy setting results in script errors while
trying to create the proxy configuration.
For this beta 1 release, you must enter the
proxy server information for each protocol.

17. The Software Check-in Wizard stops
   responding if the supplied replication
credentials do not have permission to
overwrite files on the site location.

18. Checking out, or removing software
updates from the McAfee Update Manager
console occasionally fails to remove all the
   associated software files from the
repository. However, this does not result in
continued delivery of these software updates
to computers that are updating from that
   repository.

19. In certain circumstances, pressing the f5
key to refresh the console may cause the
McAfee Update Manager console to crash due
   to a timing issue.

20. A replication task to a UNC-based site
fails to close the connection to the UNC
share. On the computer running the McAfee
Update Manager console, type NET USE to see
a list of network connections. You can
close these connections to the UNC share
   with the "NET USE <\\computername\sharename>
   /DELETE" command.

21. Selecting the "Use Internet Explorer
proxy settings" option may prevent VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 from retrieving updates from
local repository sites if a proxy is
configured in Internet Explorer. From the
computer that is attempting to get the
update, confirm that the site is accessible
via Internet Explorer. If the site is
   accessible through Internet Explorer, then
   the update should complete successfully.

22. The Common Updater agent does not
consistently clean up all temporary files
   and directories created while processing
   updates.

23. HTTP-based sites requiring authentication
are not supported in this beta 1 release.
Using an HTTP-based site that requires
   authentication for connection causes update
requests by the Common Updater Agent to
   fail.

24. Time formats in log file data are not
   consistent with the computer locale
settings. All time data in the log formats
is currently recorded in 12 hour AM/PM
format, regardless of locale settings on the
   computer.
