ABOUT THIS RELEASE

PURPOSE

This Patch includes files for use with
NetShield for NetApp. These new files resolve
the outstanding issues listed in "Resolved
Issues."

RESOLVED ISSUES

1. ISSUE:
When scanning paths on a NetApp filer over
260 characters, the filer returns an error
3, and the file is not scanned.

   RESOLUTION:
This Patch increases the length of the path
that can be scanned on a NetApp filer from
260 characters to 539 characters, which is
the limit of the NetApp filer.

   KNOWN ISSUE 1:
This Patch increases the length of the path
up to 539 characters only for detection,
cleaning and deletion. The limit for moving
   is 288 characters.

   KNOWN ISSUE 2:
When scanning a file that is read-only in a
path that is longer than 288 characters,
NetShield for NetApp will only be able to
detect the infection and report it.

2. ISSUE:
When performing an AutoUpdate on the scanner
server, occasionally the AV Scanner service
   does not restart.

   RESOLUTION:
This Patch resolves a timing issue between
McShield and Service Control Manager that
causes the AV Scanner service to not
   restart.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

To use this release, you must have NetShield
for NetApp 4.5.0 software installed on the
computer you intend to update with this
release. McAfee Security also requires that you
install the NetShield for NT HotFix Rollup
before you install this release.

   NOTE:
This release does not work with earlier
versions of NetShield for NetApp software.

INSTALLATION STEPS

1. Extract the Patch files from NNA45002.ZIP to
a temporary folder on your hard drive.

2. Open the Windows NT or Windows 2000 Services
control panel and stop the services
   "McShield" and "AV Scanner."

3. Make a copy of the original MCSHIELD.EXE,
NAAV.DLL, and NVSC.EXE files. If you
installed the NetShield for NetApp software
in its default location, you will find these
   files at:

   NVSC.EXE and NAAV.DLL
      C:\Program Files\Network Associates\Network Appliance
   MCSHIELD.EXE
      C:\Program Files\Network Associates\NetShield 2000

You can either rename the existing files
with a .BAK extension, or move the files to
a different location on your hard drive.

4. Copy the new files from the temporary folder
you created in Step 1 to the NetShield
   folders.

5. Return to the Services control panel and
restart the services "McShield" and "AV
   Scanner."

TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION

You can test the operation of the software by
running the EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File
on any computer where you have installed the
software. The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test
File is a combined effort by anti-virus vendors
throughout the world to implement one standard
by which customers can verify their anti-virus
installations.

To test your installation:

1. Copy the following line into its own file,
then save the file with the name EICAR.COM.

      X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 or 70 bytes.

2. Start your anti-virus software and allow it
to scan the directory that contains
   EICAR.COM.

When your software scans this file, it will
report finding the EICAR test file.

3. Delete the file when you have finished
testing your installation to avoid alarming
   unsuspecting users.

   IMPORTANT:
Please note that this file is NOT A VIRUS.

REMOVING THIS RELEASE

To remove this Patch from your computer, follow
the steps outlined in "Installation Steps,"
replacing the new versions of the Patch files
with the backup copies you created in Step 3.

   NOTE:
We recommend that you do NOT remove the
Patch files from your NetShield for NetApp
installation once you install them. If you
   reinstall your NetShield for NetApp
software, we recommend that you also
   reinstall the Patch.
