ABOUT THIS HOTFIX

PURPOSE

This HotFix includes all previous Service Pack
1 and HotFix files released for NetShield 4.5.0
as well as additional NetShield fixes and
product enhancements as outlined below.

This release of the HotFix also includes
several fixes to the HotFix package installer
which address specific issues reported in the
field.

PRODUCT ENHANCEMENTS

1. The offline folder attribute flag is now
    recognized by the On-Demand scanner.

2. ePO 2.5 recognizes when a client has this
    HotFix installed.

3. The Default extension list has been updated
to reflect the extension list used by the
    DAT files.

      NOTE:
To use the updated extension list for the
      On-Access scanner and previously created
scan tasks, select "Default" under the
"Files Types" option. Once you select
      "Default", your current extension list
      is overwritten.

4. The scanning of self-extracting archives is
    now more secure.

5. NetShield On-Access and On-Demand scanners
now recognize the extension ":::" in the
extension list. This extension is used to
    signify files with no extension.

RESOLVED ISSUES

    HOTFIX INSTALLER

1. ISSUE:
The HotFix release would not install to a
    server running Groupshield Exchange. During
install, an error "No Qualifying Products
    Found" would occur.

    RESOLUTION:
We now query locations of the registry
for language data that are unaffected by
    the install of Groupshield Exchange.

2. ISSUE:
The HotFix installer would change several
registry keys from DWORD values to STRING
values that NetShield could not read.

    RESOLUTION:
The following registry keys have been
made DWORD type, and they are changed from
STRING back to DWORD if the HotFix
    installer was launched previously:

    HKLM\Software\Network Associates\TVD\Shared
    Components\Events\0901\1127
         "Enabled" value of "1"
	 "Severity" value of "4"

    HKLM\Software\Network Associates\TVD\Shared
    Components\On Access Scanner\McShield\Configuration
	 "ScannerThreadTimeoutEx" value of "5000"

3. ISSUE:
If a value existed for "ScannerThreadTimeoutEx"
it would be changed to 5000 by the HotFix
    installer.

    RESOLUTION:
If this value exists and is of type DWORD,
it is not changed. If it is of type STRING,
it is changed to a DWORD - the value is not
    affected.

    HOTFIX 1 - Release Date: October 16, 2000

4. ISSUE:
The NetShield software allows the user to
configure the On-Access scanner to examine
files located on network drives. However,
if you are using Terminal Server in
    conjunction with Citrix Metaframe v1.8
software, and if the mapped network drive
is a shared folder located on a Novell
NetWare server, Terminal Server will blue
screen when a file is copied to the shared
    folder.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NAIFILTR.SYS
with a new version that resolves the blue
    screen.

    HOTFIX 2 - Release Date: December 20, 2000

5. ISSUE:
    Certain corrupted archive files cause
NetShield to generate a Dr. Watson error
during a scan operation. The Dr. Watson
    error message reads "SCAN32.EXE --
    Exception: Access violation," followed by
    a memory address.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NSARCHIV.DLL
with a newer version that includes error
handling for certain types of corrupted
    archive files.

    HOTFIX 3 - Release Date: March 19, 2001

6. ISSUE:
    The AutoUpdate and AutoUpgrade components
write all their activity to the application
event log of the Microsoft Windows server.
If the application event log has a size
limitation set, the server hangs once that
    limitation has been reached.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file MCUPDATE.EXE
with a newer version that reads two
registry values that enable or disable the
recording of activity in the event log. To
enable this feature, create the following
    values:

      AUTOUPDATE
      HKLM\Software\Network Associates\TVD\NetShield
      NT\CurrentVersion\Tasks\Update\bLogToEvlog

      AUTOUPGRADE
      HKLM\Software\Network Associates\TVD\NetShield
      NT\CurrentVersion\Tasks\Upgrade\bLogToEvlog

Set the REG_DWORD value to 1 to enable
    logging, 0 to disable logging.

7. ISSUE:
If logging for AutoUpdate or AutoUpgrade
has been disabled via the Log Activity tab,
an error message appears in the Windows
Event Viewer, stating that McUpdate could
not write to the activity log file.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file MCUPDATE.EXE
with a newer version that no longer reports
an error message to the Windows Event
    Viewer.

    HOTFIX 5 - Release Date: May 14, 2001

      NOTE:
If you have installed the original
release of HotFix 5, released as HotFix
E, you will need to apply the HotFix
included in this package to ensure
      enhancements are applied.

8. ISSUE:
The AutoUpdate or AutoUpgrade task returns
an error that the specified directory does
not exist when run under these conditions:
a user connects to a UNC share using a
specific account (supplying user name and
password); the user has read access to the
share/UNC path, but the logged-on account
    does not have read access.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the files MCUPDATE.EXE
and NSPLUGIN.DLL with newer versions that
use the proper rights to access a share for
    AutoUpdate and AutoUpgrade.

9. ISSUE:
When an AutoUpdate task is run while
already running the latest DAT files,
McUpdate returns an error that the update
    failed.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file MCUPDATE.EXE
with a newer version that does not return
    this error.

    HOTFIX 6 - Release Date: May 24, 2001

10. ISSUE:
When running an AutoUpgrade task, a
registry value is created and continues to
grow in size with each subsequent
AutoUpgrade until the system is rebooted.
In some cases, the size of the registry
value causes the system to crash.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file MCUPDATE.EXE
with a newer version that deletes the
registry value after the AutoUpgrade task
    is run.

    HOTFIX 7 - Release Date: June 19, 2001

11. ISSUE:
On some servers, during stress conditions,
a fatal exception error 1E occurs when
    "scan on rename" is enabled.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NAIFILTR.SYS
with a newer version that can have "scan on
rename" disabled. To disable "scan on
    rename," create the following REG_DWORD
    value:

      HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\
      NaiFiltr\Parameters\DisableRenameScans

Set the value to 1 and reboot.

With all other scanning options enabled,
this does not present any serious security
    risk to the environment.

    HOTFIX 12 - Release Date: July 25, 2001

12. ISSUE:
Under some conditions the On-Access scanner
    may become disabled without apparent
    cause.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the files MCSHIELD.EXE
and NAIANN.DLL with newer versions that
prevent the On-Access scanner from randomly
    becoming disabled.

13. ISSUE:
    Using Microsoft NetWare Redirector to
access a file on a Novell NetWare 4.11
server from a Microsoft Windows 2000 server
may cause the On-Access scanner to time
    out.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the files MCSHIELD.EXE
and NAIANN.DLL with newer versions that do
not time out in this scenario.

14. ISSUE:
Using NetWare Client 4.8 to access a file
on a Novell NetWare server from a Microsoft
Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 server may
cause the On-Access scanner to time out.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the files MCSHIELD.EXE
and NAIANN.DLL with newer versions that do
not time out in this scenario.

    HOTFIX 14 - Release Date: July 26, 2001

15. ISSUE:
In AutoUpdate, when the "Save the Update
file for later usage" option is selected,
the UPDATE.INI file is not saved.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file MCUPDATE.EXE
with a newer version that saves the
    UPDATE.INI file.

    HOTFIX 16 - Release Date: September 4,
    2001

16. ISSUE:
When Mcafee NetShield 4.5.0 Service Pack 1
and ArcServe 2000 are installed on the same
Microsoft Windows 2000 server, the last
access dates of files may not be
    preserved.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the files MCSHIELD.EXE
and NAIANN.DLL with newer versions that
    preserve the last access dates.

EXTENSION LIST FIX - Release Date:
    September 20, 2001

17. ISSUE:
When the on-demand scan is set to "Selected
File Types" under the "Where & What" tab,
it will not properly scan files with
    extensions greater than three characters.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file SCAN32.EXE
with a newer version that allows the
on-demand scanner to properly scan files
    with greater than three characters.

    FIXES NOT PREVIOUSLY RELEASED

18. ISSUE:
When an AutoUpdate or AutoUpgrade task is
run, the log file truncates itself, even
when "Limit log file size to" is
    unchecked.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file MCUPDATE.EXE
with a newer version that will not truncate
the log file unless "Limit log file size
    to" is checked.

19. ISSUE:
When an AutoUpgrade task is run, the
    temporary folders created during the
    process are not deleted.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file MCUPDATE.EXE
with a newer version that deletes the
    temporary folders used during an
    AutoUpgrade.

20. ISSUE:
Adding more that 65 extensions to the
extension list causes the first 65
    extensions to be removed.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the files SCAN32.EXE,
    SCNCFG32.EXE, and SHCFG32.EXE with newer
versions that enable more than 65
    extensions to be added properly.

21. ISSUE:
When using either ePO 2.0 or ePO 2.5 to
manage NetShield on-demand scan tasks, the
exclusions set for that task are not used
    by the NetShield product.

    RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the file NNT450B.NAP
with a newer version that properly handles
exclusions for the NetShield on-demand scan
    tasks.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

To use this HotFix, you must have NetShield
4.5.0 software installed on the computer you
intend to update with this HotFix.

   NOTE:
This HotFix does not work with earlier
versions of NetShield software, and only
works with English, Spanish, German, and
   French versions of NetShield.

If you already have installed the NetShield
HotFix Rollup dated January 29, 2002, you do
not need to install this version.

INSTALLATION STEPS

INSTALLATION ON A SINGLE CLIENT

1. Extract the contents of the HotFix package
to a temporary folder on the client you
    wish to update.

2. Double-click on the file NNTHFIXR.EXE.

3. Click "Next" to begin the installation.

4. If prompted, reboot your client once the
    installation is complete.

INSTALLTION VIA AUTOUPGRADE

1. Extract the files NNTHFIXR.EXE, SETUP.ISS,
and PKGDESC.INI from the HotFix package to
    a temporary folder.

2. Rename NNTHFIXR.EXE to SETUP.EXE.

3. Modify SETUP.ISS if needed based on the
    configuration information in Step 4.

4. To specify configuration options in your
SETUP.ISS file, use the example shown below
to learn which options you may use.

      [SuperDATOptions]
      bReboot=0
      bPrompt=0
      szLogFile=C:\temp\Status.LOG

    NOTE:
A description of what each statement in the
    file does follows:

      - bReboot=1

This statement tells the HotFix package
installer to restart the target computer
if it must do so in order to finish
      updating or upgrading your anti-virus
software. If you do not want the target
computer to restart after it updates your
files, set the value of bReboot= to 0, or
      remove the statement from SETUP.ISS.

      - bPrompt=1

This statement tells the HotFix package
installer to display only the Shut Down
Windows dialog box when it has updated or
      upgraded your software.

      - szLogFile=<PATH\FILENAME>

This statement tells the HotFix package
installer to save a log file with the
file name you specify and in the location
you specify. By default, the HotFix
package installer creates a log file in
      the current working directory.

Configure your AutoUpgrade task to point to
    the directory that SETUP.EXE, SETUP.ISS,
and PKGDESC.INI are saved in. If you are
using ePO 2.0 or above, you can also push a
new AutoUpgrade task to the clients,
without modification to the ePO server. If
you are using ePO 1.1, you must follow the
    instructions under "UPDATING NETSHIELD
    PLUG-IN FOR EPO 1.1."

UPDATING NETSHIELD PLUG-IN FOR EPO 1.1

      NOTE:
Before this HotFix can be used in an
      ePolicy Orchestrator 1.1 environment,
the NetShield plug-in must be updated
      on the ePO server.

1. Extract the files from the HotFix installer
    package using the command line
    "NNTHFIXR.EXE -e."

2. On the ePO 1.1 server, modify the file
    CONSOLE.INI located in "\program
    files\mcafee\epo."

3. Add the following lines to the INI file:

      [Hidden]
      EnablePluginUpgrade=1

4. Close and re-open the console on the ePO
    1.1 server.

5. In the ePO software repository, drill down
    into "NetShield NT." Right-click
    "English" and choose "update plug-in."

6. When prompted, browse to the directory you
extracted the HotFix files to and choose
    "NsPlugin.dll."

7. The next time the ePO agents communicate
to the ePO server, the new NetShield plug-in
will be updated on the NetShield servers.

INSTALLATION OF NETSHIELD NAP FILES FOR EPO 2.X

      NOTE:
The NetShield management and plug-in NAP
files included in this HotFix are intended
to be used only with ePolicy Orchestrator
2.0 and 2.5. You must install both NAP files
before using this HotFix with EPO 2.X.

1. Extract the files NNT450B.NAP and NNTP450B.NAP
from NNTHFIXR.ZIP, and copy them to a temporary
    folder.

2. Open the ePO Console, highlight
"Repository" in the console tree, then
    right-click "Repository" and select
    "Configure Repository."

3. Select "Add new software to be managed,"
then click "Continue" to open the "Select a
    Software Package" window.

4. Use the "Look in" field to browse to the
    temporary folder that you extracted
NNT450B.NAP to, and select the NAP file.

5. Click "Open" to begin the installation.

9. Click "OK" when asked if you would like to
    overwrite the existing software package.

2. Once installation of the management NAP file
is complete, highlight "Repository" in the
    console tree, then right-click "Repository"
    and select "Configure Repository."

11. Select "Update Plug-In."

12. Click "Continue" to open the "Select a
    Software Package" window.

4. Use the "Look in" field to browse to the
    temporary folder that you extracted
NNTP450B.NAP to, and select the NAP file.

14. Click "Open" to update the product.

      IMPORTANT:
Before installing the NetShield HotFix, you
must verify that the plug-in has been updated.
To do this, go to the install directory. By default:

	c:\Program Files\Epo\2.0\db\Software\Netshield2000

Locate the file NSPLUGIN.DLL, and right-click,
and select properties. The version number
      will be 1.0.0.18.

TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION

You can test the operation of the software by
running the EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File
on any computer where you have installed the
software. The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test
File is a combined effort by anti-virus vendors
throughout the world to implement one standard
by which customers can verify their anti-virus
installations.

To test your installation:

1. Copy the following line into its own file,
then save the file with the name
    EICAR.COM.

    X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 or 70 bytes.

2. Start your anti-virus software and allow it
to scan the directory that contains
    EICAR.COM.

When your software scans this file, it will
report finding the EICAR test file.

3. Delete the file when you have finished
testing your installation to avoid alarming
    unsuspecting users.

    IMPORTANT:
Please note that this file is NOT A VIRUS.

REMOVING THIS HOTFIX

To remove this HotFix from your computer,
uninstall NetShield 4.5.0 using Add/Remove
Programs, reboot, and reinstall your original
NetShiled 4.5.0 software. This will restore the
previous application files.

   NOTE:
We recommend that you do NOT remove the
   HotFix files from your NetShield
installation once you install them. If you
reinstall your NetShield 4.5.0 software, we
recommend that you also reinstall the
   HotFix.

Once the new version of the ePolicy
Orchestrator NAP file is loaded into the
Repository, there is no way to remove it.
