ABOUT THIS RELEASE

PURPOSE

This Patch includes files for use with NetShield for
NetWare software. These new files resolve the
outstanding issues listed under "Resolved Issues."

RESOLVED ISSUES

1. ISSUE:
When using the AutoUpdate feature to update the
virus definition (DAT) files from an internal
FTP site, the update may fail with an invalid
password after unloading and reloading NetShield
    for NetWare.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the files NETSHLD.NLM and
MCUTIL32.DLL with newer versions that correctly
save the password after unloading and reloading
NetShield for NetWare software. NOTE: the
current limitation for the FTP username and
    password is 40 characters.

2. ISSUE:
When using the AutoUpdate feature to update the
virus definition (DAT) files, the update may
fail when DNS name resolution is not enabled,
even if using the IP address.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that does not rely on DNS when
using the IP address to perform a trusted server
    update.

3. ISSUE:
When using the NetShield for NetWare Alert
Manager SMTP feature, the e-mail alert messages
sent are truncated to 255 characters.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that does not truncate SMTP Alert
Manager messages to 255 characters. NOTE: the
current limitation for SMTP Alert Manager
    messages is 485 characters.

ADDITIONAL RESOLVED ISSUES

1. ISSUE:
When the NetShield for NetWare scan engine
encounters a recursive archive, a stack overflow
ABEND may occur with a running process of
    MCSHLD_Access_0x or SCScan_0x.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that has an increased stack size
    to correctly handle recursive archives.

2. ISSUE:
When using the AutoUpdate feature to update the
virus definition (DAT) files, a stack overflow
ABEND may occur when initializing the scan
engine with a running process of NETSHLD
    XUReceive.

    RESOLUTION:
This patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that has an increased stack size
to correctly initialize the scan engine.

3. ISSUE:
When using the NetShield for NetWare Alert
Manager SNMP feature, the object identifiers are
    not reported correctly.

    RESOLUTION:
This patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM, which
    correctly reports the object identifiers.

4. ISSUE:
When performing an on-demand scan where the
action to be taken on an infected file is set to
"Clean," NetShield for NetWare may suspend the
repair process, causing the repair of an
infected file to fail. This can cause high-CPU
utilization and the product to hang on the
"NetShield is terminating" screen. (This issue
only occurs on NetShield for NetWare 4.6.1 with
    Patch01 applied.)

    RESOLUTION:
This patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that correctly repairs an infected
    file.

5. ISSUE:
When using the AutoUpdate feature to update the
virus definition (DAT) files, the update may
fail when using the IP address, but will succeed
    when using the host name.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that correctly updates the virus
definition files when using the IP address.

6. ISSUE:
When performing an on-demand scan, NetShield for
NetWare would alter the archive properties,
causing certain backup programs to incorrectly
back up files during an incremental backup.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that does not alter the archive
    properties during an on-demand scan.

7. ISSUE:
When attempting to unload NetShield for NetWare
with a slow or failed Active FTP link, the
AutoUpdate process may stop responding at the
"NetShield is terminating" dialog box, thus
preventing the unload action from completing.

    RESOLUTION:
This patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that terminates this failed FTP
link and enables the product to be unloaded.

8. ISSUE:
When attempting to load NETSHLD.NLM by typing in
the full path to NETSHLD.NLM using forward
slashes (/) instead of backward slashes (\), the
server may ABEND with a running process of
    NETSHLD TMMain Process.

    RESOLUTION:
This patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that does not ABEND when typing in
the full path to NETSHLD.NLM using forward
    slashes.

9. ISSUE:
When attempting to load NAIREG.NLM by typing in
the full path to NAIREG.NLM using forward
slashes (/) instead of backward slashes (\), the
server may ABEND with a running process of
    NETSHLD TMMain Process.

    RESOLUTION:
This patch replaces the file NAIREG.NLM with a
newer version that does not ABEND when typing in
the full path to NAIREG.NLM using forward
    slashes.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

To use this release, you must have NetShield for
NetWare 4.6.1 software installed on the computer you
intend to update with this release.

    NOTE:
This release does not work with earlier versions
    of NetShield for NetWare software.

INSTALLATION STEPS ON THE NETWARE SERVER

1. Extract the Patch files from NSH46104.ZIP to a
temporary folder on your hard drive.

2. At the server or using a NetWare remote console,
unload NetShield for NetWare. To do so, issue
the following command at the NetWare system
    console:

        Unload netshld

3. Rename the NETSHLD.NLM, the NAIREG.NLM and the
NSHPLGIN.NLM files with a different extension,
for example NETSHLD.OLD, or back them up to a
different location. If you installed NetShield
for NetWare to its default location, you can
find NETSHLD.NLM and NAIREG.NLM in the following
    folder:

       SYS:MCAFEE\NETSHLD

4. Copy the updated NETSHLD.NLM, the NAIREG.NLM,
and the NSHPLGIN.NLM files from the temporary
folder you created in Step 1 to the NetShield
    for NetWare installation folder.

5. Restart NetShield for NetWare. To do so, issue
the following command at the NetWare system
    console:

        Load netshld

INSTALLATION STEPS ON THE WORKSTATION

1. Extract the Patch files from NSH46104.ZIP to a
temporary folder on your hard drive.

2. Exit the McAfee NetShield for NetWare
    workstation console.

3. Rename the MCUTIL32.DLL file with a different
extension, for example MCUTIL32.OLD, or back it
up to a different location. If you installed
the NetShield for NetWare workstation console to
its default location, you can find the
MCUTIL32.DLL file in the following folder:

        C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETWORK ASSOCIATES\MCAFEE
        NETSHIELD FOR NETWARE

4. Copy the updated MCUTIL32.DLL file from the
temporary folder you created in Step 1 to the
    NetShield for NetWare workstation console
    installation folder.

5. Restart the NetShield for NetWare workstation
    console.

TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION

You can test the operation of the software by
running the EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File on
any computer where you have installed the software.
The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File is a combined
effort by anti-virus vendors throughout the world to
implement one standard by which customers can verify
their anti-virus installations.

To test your installation:

1. Copy the following line into its own file, then
save the file with the name EICAR.COM.

       X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 or 70 bytes.

2. Start your anti-virus software and allow it to
scan the directory that contains EICAR.COM.

When your software scans this file, it will
report finding the EICAR test file.

3. Delete the file when you have finished testing
your installation to avoid alarming unsuspecting
    users.

    IMPORTANT:
Please note that this file is NOT A VIRUS.

For more information on the EICAR test file, visit:

       www.eicar.org.

REMOVING THIS RELEASE

To remove this Patch from your computer, reinstall
your original NetShield for NetWare anti-virus
software. This restores the previous .NLM files.

    NOTE:
We recommend that you do NOT remove the Patch
files from your NetShield for NetWare
installation once you install them. If you
reinstall your NetShield for NetWare 4.6.1
software, we recommend that you also reinstall
    the Patch.
