ABOUT THIS RELEASE

PURPOSE

This Patch included files for use with NetShield for
NetWare software. These new files resolve the
outstanding issues listed under "Resolved Issues."

RESOLVED ISSUES

1. ISSUE:
When using the AutoUpdate feature to update the
virus definition (DAT) files, the update may
fail with the error "Could not rename XXX.DAT to
    XXX.PRV".

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that allows you to rename the old
    DAT files.

2. ISSUE:
When using the AutoUpdate feature to update the
virus definition (DAT) files from an FTP site,
the error "doFTP no files in target directory"
may be incorrectly displayed if communication
with the FTP server is lost.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the files NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that displays the correct error
    message if communication is lost.

3. ISSUE:
When using the NetShield for NetWare
command-line switches CPUHigh, Loop, and Delay
with a forward slash (/), the product will not
    load.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that displays a message notifying
the user that the forward slash (/) is no longer
    needed.

4. ISSUE:
NetShield for NetWare may abend when a scan
request is made from another program that is
    loaded in protected memory.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that does not abend when
interacting with programs loaded in protected
    memory.

5. ISSUE:
The server may abend when an infected file is
accessed from within a folder whose name has
    more than 613 characters.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that does not cause an abend when
accessing an infected file located in a folder
with a name consisting of more than 613
    characters.

6. ISSUE:
The Alert Manager messages indicating that the
On-Access Scanner is enabled or disabled are not
    sent.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that correctly sends the Alert
    Manager messages.

7. ISSUE:
Alert Messages that use the variable %GMTTIME%
do not display the correct GMT time.

    RESOLUTION:
This Patch replaces the file NETSHLD.NLM with a
newer version that displays the correct GMT
    time.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

To use this release, you must have NetShield for
NetWare 4.6.2 software installed on the computer you
intend to update with this release.

    NOTE:
This release does not work with earlier versions
    of NetShield for NetWare software.

INSTALLATION STEPS

1. Extract the Patch files from NSH46201.ZIP to a
temporary folder on your hard drive.

2. At the server or using a NetWare remote console,
unload NetShield for NetWare. To do so, issue
the following command at the NetWare system
    console:

           Unload netshld

3. Rename the NETSHLD.NLM and the NAIREG.NLM files
with a different extension, for example
NETSHLD.OLD, or back them up to a different
location. If you installed NetShield for NetWare
to its default location, you can find
NETSHLD.NLM and NAIREG.NLM in the following
    folder:

           SYS:MCAFEE\NETSHLD

4. Copy the updated NETSHLD.NLM and NAIREG.NLM
files from the temporary folder you created in
Step 1 to the NetShield for NetWare installation
    folder.

5. Restart NetShield for NetWare. To do so, issue
the following command at the NetWare system
    console:

           Load netshld

TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION

You can test the operation of the software by
running the EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File on
any computer where you have installed the software.
The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File is a combined
effort by anti-virus vendors throughout the world to
implement one standard by which customers can verify
their anti-virus installations.

To test your installation:

1. Copy the following line into its own file, then
save the file with the name EICAR.COM.

       X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 or 70 bytes.

2. Start your anti-virus software and allow it to
scan the directory that contains EICAR.COM.

When your software scans this file, it will
report finding the EICAR test file.

3. Delete the file when you have finished testing
your installation to avoid alarming unsuspecting
    users.

    IMPORTANT:
Please note that this file is NOT A VIRUS.

For more information on the EICAR test file, visit:

       www.eicar.org

REMOVING THIS RELEASE

To remove this Patch from your computer, reinstall
your original NetShield for NetWare 4.6.2 software.
This restores the previous .NLM files.

    NOTE:
We recommend that you do NOT remove the Patch
files from your NetShield for NetWare
installation once you install them. If you
reinstall your NetShield for NetWare 4.6.2
software, we recommend that you also reinstall
    the Patch.
