   - DAT Version: 4224
   - Engine Version: 4.1.60

===============================================

We are pleased to offer this build to you for
testing. This is an interim build between beta
1 and beta 2 and is not considered "beta
quality". This build is intended as a preview
of our progress post beta 1 and to allow you to
regress bugs fixed since beta 1.

Thank you for using VirusScan Enterprise
software. This file contains important
information regarding this release. We strongly
recommend that you read the entire document.

   IMPORTANT:
McAfee strongly recommends that you use any
   pre-release software (beta or release
candidate) in a test environment only.
Pre-release software should not be installed
   in a production environment.

McAfee does not support automatic upgrading
from a pre-release version of the software.
To upgrade to a later beta release, a
release candidate, or a production release
of the software, you must first uninstall
the existing version of the software.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS & INSTALLATION

See the VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 Installation
Guide for details on installing the product.
The Installation Guide is available for
download from the McAfee web site.

TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION

You can test the operation of the software by
running the EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File
on any computer where you have installed the
software. The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test
File is a combined effort by anti-virus vendors
throughout the world to implement one standard
by which customers can verify their anti-virus
installations.

To test your installation:

1. Copy the following line into its own file,
then save the file with the name EICAR.COM.

      X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 or 70 bytes.

2. Start your anti-virus software and allow it
to scan the directory that contains
   EICAR.COM.

When VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 scans this
file, it will report finding the EICAR test
   file.

3. Delete the file when you have finished
testing your installation to avoid alarming
   unsuspecting users.

   IMPORTANT:
Please note that this file is NOT A VIRUS.

RESOLVED ISSUES

The following list describes issues from the
initial beta 1 release of VirusScan Enterprise
7.0 that have been resolved with this current
release.

1. ISSUE:
For this beta 1 release, VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 for Windows .NET server is
not yet supported. AutoUpdate does not work
and scheduled tasks do not run and may
   generate errors.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

2. ISSUE:
If, during a custom installation, you
   install the On-Access Scanner without
   installing the On-Demand Scanner or
AutoUpdate, the On-Access scanner may fail
to start and cannot be restarted if
   stopped.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

3. ISSUE:
After installing on a terminal server,
Windows may display a "Terminal Server
   install Failure" error, even though
   VirusScan Enterprise installs successfully.
Your installation log should indicate that
   VirusScan Enterprise was installed
successfully. To correct this, delete the
registry entry for InstallNAIProduct in the
   Windows registry at
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\
   Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run..

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

4. ISSUE:
The beta 1 installation package does not
provide the option to remove an existing
instance of Norton AntiVirus 2002 software.
To remove Norton AntiVirus 2002 from a
computer where VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 is
to be installed, first manually uninstall
   Norton AntiVirus.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

5. ISSUE:
   HTTP-based update sites requiring
authentication are not supported in this
beta 1 release. Using an HTTP-based site
   that requires authentication for connection
causes update requests by the Common Updater
   Agent to fail.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

6. ISSUE:
When importing a Site List file
(SITELIST.XML), you may receive an error
   message stating "Import file failed."
   Sometimes this error is generated
accidentally, even though the Site List
imports successfully. If you get this error,
you can test the import by running an
update. If the update works, then the Site
   List imported successfully.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

7. ISSUE:
The beta 1 VirusScan Enterprise E-mail
scanner does not currently send alerts to
Alert Manager. Note, however, that E-mail
Scan detection and logging does function as
   designed.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

8. ISSUE:
For this beta 1 release, statistics are
unavailable for E-mail Scan tasks. To access
   E-mail Scan statistics, right-click "E-mail
Scan" in the VirusScan Enterprise Console,
   and select "Statistics." Currently, the
   "Statistics" right-click menu option is
   disabled (grayed out).

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

9. ISSUE:
After manually stopping a scheduled scan
task, SCAN32.EXE may not stop. This can
occur even if the scan task is stopped by an
   administrator.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

10. ISSUE:
McShield and McUpdate may currently log
entries to the Windows NT event log with an
ID of 5022 and the text "MCSCAN32 engine
   initialization failed. Engine returned
error: critical internal error." You can
ignore this message if the log entry is
immediately followed by an "Event 5000"
entry, indicating that the update was
   successful.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for this beta 1
   refresh release.

KNOWN ISSUES

MOST IMPORTANT KNOWN ISSUES FOR THE BETA
RELEASE

1. When installing on a computer running the
Windows XP or .NET operating system, a
warning dialog box appears stating that a
driver is not signed and has not been
certified for Windows XP. If this occurs,
click "Continue Anyway" to proceed with the
   installation.

      WARNING:
YOU MUST CLICK "CONTINUE ANYWAY" AT THIS
POINT. If you do not, cancel the install
at this point, the On-Access Scanner may
not work on a subsequent install.

      NOTE:
This beta driver has been tested for
      compliance with Windows XP requirements
but will not be signed until the RC
      release of VirusScan Enterprise 7.0.

2. This beta release of VriusScan Enterprise
7.0 has been tested for compatibility with
ePolicy Orchestrator versions 2.5 and 2.5.1.
The following issues have been observed:

   - VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 can not send
      events to ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.

   - The postpone update feature may fail --
the update task does not restart after it
has been postponed by the user.

INSTALLING AND UPGRADING

3. For this beta 1 release, VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 does not fully support
   upgrading the product via over-install.
   Before installing VirusScan Enterprise 7.0,
first uninstall any existing versions of
   VirusScan or NetShield software.

4. Some install functionality is not present
   when installing using MSIEXEC.EXE. In
particular, SETUP.EXE is used to perform
upgrade or overinstall of any McAfee or
competitors anti-virus product. If you do
use MSIEXEC.EXE to install VirusScan, you
must first remove any existing anti-virus
   products.

5. This release supports deployment using
   Administration Installation Points (AIP).
However, you must run SETUP.EXE from the AIP
to perform upgrades or to uninstall other
   antivirus software, such as Norton
AntiVirus. Note that if you deploy
   VirusScan Enterprise via Active Directory
   group policies, which installs using
MSIEXEC.EXE, you will need to remove any
   existing antivirus product prior to
   installing VirusScan Enterprise.

6. For this beta 1 release, VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 does not support updates
using SuperDAT. For upgrades to VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0, use the new AutoUpdate
utility and McAfee Update Manager software.
See the VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 Product
Guide and the McAfee Update Manager Product
   Guide for more information.

UPDATING AND MCAFEE UPDATE MANAGER

7. When updating, selecting the "Use Internet
Explorer proxy settings" option can prevent
   VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 from retrieving
updates from local sites. From the computer
that is attempting to get the update,
confirm that the site is accessible via
Internet Explorer. If the site is accessible
through Internet Explorer, then the update
   should complete successfully.

8. When updating, the Common Updater agent does
not consistently clean up all temporary
   files and directories created while
   processing updates.

ALERTING AND ALERT MANAGER

9. If you do not install Alert Manager as part
of a custom installation the first time you
install VirusScan Enterprise 7.0, you can
   NOT use the VirusScan Enterprise
   installation utility to install Alert
Manager at a later time. To install Alert
Manager at a later time after VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 is already installed, you
must run the stand-alone Alert Manager
installer. See the Alert Manager 4.7 Product
   Guide for more information.

MISCELLANEOUS ISSUES

10. The default location for the On-Demand
scan quarantine folder is currently set to
the last local drive on the local system.
For example, if the last local drive on a
computer is G:\, then the default quarantine
folder location is G:\Quarantine. This is
   different than the default installation
folder for the product, which is C:\.

11. The context-sensitive online Help is not
yet complete for this beta release.
   Right-clicking on some interface controls
and selecting "Whats This?" may display "No
help topic associated with this item."
