                 Version 7.0.0
               Beta 2 Refresh Release

   - DAT Version: 4244
   - Engine Version: 4.2.40

===============================================

We are pleased to offer this build to you for
testing. This is an interim build between beta
2 and Release Candidate and is not considered
"beta quality". This build is intended as a
preview of our progress since beta 2 and gives
you the opportunity to regress bugs fixed since
beta 2.

Thank you for using VirusScan Enterprise
software. This file contains important
information regarding this release. We strongly
recommend that you read the entire document.

   IMPORTANT:
McAfee strongly recommends that you use any
   pre-release software (beta or release
candidate) in a test environment only.
Pre-release software should not be installed
   in a production environment.

McAfee does not support automatic upgrading
from a pre-release version of the software.
To upgrade to a later beta release, a
release candidate, or a production release
of the software, you must first uninstall
the existing version of the software.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS & INSTALLATION

See the VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 Installation
Guide for details on installing the product.
The Installation Guide is available for
download from the McAfee web site.

TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION

You can test the operation of the software by
running the EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File
on any computer where you have installed the
software. The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test
File is a combined effort by anti-virus vendors
throughout the world to implement one standard
by which customers can verify their anti-virus
installations.

To test your installation:

1. Copy the following line into its own file,
then save the file with the name EICAR.COM.

      X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 or 70 bytes.

2. Start your anti-virus software and allow it
to scan the directory that contains
   EICAR.COM.

When VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 scans this
file, it will report finding the EICAR test
   file.

3. Delete the file when you have finished
testing your installation to avoid alarming
   unsuspecting users.

   IMPORTANT:
Please note that this file is NOT A VIRUS.

RESOLVED ISSUES

The following list describes issues from the
initial beta 1 release of VirusScan Enterprise
7.0 that have been resolved with successive
releases.

1. ISSUE:
For the beta 1 release, VirusScan Enterprise
7.0 for Windows Server 2003 (formerly known
as Windows .NET Server) was not yet
supported. AutoUpdate did not work and
scheduled tasks did not run and generated
   errors.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
   refresh release. VirusScan Enterprise 7.0
now fully supports the Windows Server 2003
   platform. AutoUpdate works correctly and
   scheduled tasks run successfully.

2. ISSUE:
For the beta 1 release, if, during a custom
   installation, you installed the On-Access
   Scanner without installing the On-Demand
Scanner or AutoUpdate, the On-Access Scanner
failed to start and could not be restarted
   if stopped.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
refresh release. The On-Access Scanner now
operates successfully on a system that did
not include the On-Demand Scanner or
   AutoUpdate utility in a custom
   installation.

3. ISSUE:
After installing the product on a terminal
   server, Windows sometimes displayed a
   "Terminal Server install Failure" error,
   even though VirusScan Enterprise installed
   successfully.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
refresh release. No errors should occur when
installation on a terminal server is
   successful.

4. ISSUE:
The beta 1 installation package did not
provide the option to remove an existing
instance of Norton AntiVirus 2002 software.
You had to manually uninstall Norton
   AntiVirus.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
refresh release. You can now select the
option to uninstall Norton AntiVirus 2002
   software automatically.

5. ISSUE:
   HTTP-based update sites requiring
authentication were not supported in the
beta 1 release. Using an HTTP-based site
   requiring authentication for connection
caused update requests by the McAfee
   AutoUpdate component to fail.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
   refresh release. Authentication on
HTTP-based update sites is now fully
   supported.

6. ISSUE:
When importing a repository list file
(SITELIST.XML), you may have received an
error message stating "Import file failed."
   Sometimes this error was generated
   accidentally, even though the repository
list imports successfully. If you got this
error, you could still test the import by
running an update. If the update worked,
   then the repository list imported
   successfully.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
refresh release. You should no longer
receive a false error message when the
   repository list imports successfully.

7. ISSUE:
The beta 1 VirusScan Enterprise E-mail
Scanner did not send alerts to Alert Manager
even though E-mail Scan detection and
   logging functioned as designed.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
refresh release. The E-mail Scan can now
   send alerts to Alert Manager.

8. ISSUE:
For the beta 1 release, statistics were
unavailable for E-mail Scan tasks. The
"Statistics" right-click menu option in the
   VirusScan Enterprise Console was disabled
   (grayed out).

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
refresh release. You can now access
   statistics by right-clicking "E-mail Scan"
in the VirusScan Enterprise Console and
   selecting "Statistics."

9. ISSUE:
After manually stopping a scheduled scan
task, SCAN32.EXE sometimes did not stop.
This could occur even if an administrator
   stopped the scan task.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
refresh release. SCAN32.EXE now stops when
you manually stop a scheduled scan task.

10. ISSUE:
   McShield and McUpdate sometimes logged
entries to the Windows NT event log with an
ID of 5022 and the text "MCSCAN32 engine
   initialization failed. Engine returned
error: critical internal error." You could
ignore this message if the log entry was
immediately followed by an "Event 5000"
entry, indicating that the update was
   successful.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue was resolved for the beta 1
refresh release. McShield and McUpdate no
longer log 5022 entries to the event log
   unless the error actually occurs.

11. ISSUE:
For the beta 1 release, VirusScan Enterprise
7.0 did not fully support upgrading the
   product via over-install. Before installing
VirusScan Enterprise 7.0, you had to first
uninstall any existing versions of VirusScan
   or NetShield software.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been mostly resolved for the
beta 2 release. However, note that there is
still a problem with over-installing when
the installation path is longer than 200
characters. See the "Known Issues" section
of this README.TXT file for more
   information.

12. ISSUE:
In the beta 1 release, the default location
for the On-Demand Scan quarantine folder was
set to the last local drive on the system.
For example, if the last local drive on a
computer was G:\, the default quarantine
folder location was G:\Quarantine. Note that
this was different than the default
installation folder for the product, which
   is C:\.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
release. The default quarantine folder is
   now C:\Quarantine.

13. ISSUE:
When updating, selecting the "Use Internet
   Explorer proxy settings" option sometimes
prevented the beta 1 version of VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 from retrieving updates from
   local sites.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
release. The "Use Internet Explorer proxy
   settings" option now successfully retrieves
   updates from local sites.

14. ISSUE:
The beta 1 version of VirusScan Enterprise
7.0 could not send events to ePolicy
   Orchestrator 2.5.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
release. VirusScan Enterprise can now send
   events to ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.

15. ISSUE:
In the beta 2 release, logging that used the
   %ALLUSERSPROFILE% system variable did not
   work correctly on Windows NT.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
   refresh release.

16. ISSUE:
In the beta 2 release, if you deleted the
default AutoUpdate task in the VirusScan
Console, you were not able to run "Update
Now" from the Windows system tray
   right-click menu. Clicking "Update Now"
after deleting the default AutoUpdate task
   generated the following error: "Invalid
   configuration options specified. Confirm
product is correctly installed." This error
continued to occur after you created a new
AutoUpdate task, although you could schedule
the new AutoUpdate task to run or run it
directly from the VirusScan Console. In
order to get the right-click system tray
"Update Now" feature to work again, you had
   to reinstall VirusScan Enterprise 7.0.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
refresh release. You can no longer delete
the default AutoUpdate task in the VirusScan
   Console.

17. ISSUE:
In the beta 2 release, there was an
   inconsistency between the VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 product and the McAfee
   AutoUpdate Architect regarding the
Repository List. The Repository List refers
to the SITELIST.XML repository list file.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
   refresh release. Both VirusScan Enterprise
7.0 and McAfee AutoUpdate Architect refer to
the "Repository List". Note that this still
   refers to the SITELIST.XML file.

18. ISSUE:
In the beta 2 release, you may have seen the
   following harmless error when updating:
   "Error occurred while loading COM
   componet:{940F2A91-D23C-4BE3-8BD7-FBB5DC20BFF0}."
This error could be safely ignored.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
refresh release. You should no longer see
   this error when updating.

19. ISSUE:
The beta 2 AutoUpdate component did not
support NTLM proxy or HTTP authentication.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
   refresh release. The AutoUpdate component
now supports NTLM proxy and HTTP
   authentication.

20. ISSUE:
The beta 2 AutoUpdate component did not
   support Internet Explorer auto proxy
detection on systems running the Windows NT
   4 operating system.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
   refresh release.

21. ISSUE:
The beta 2 version of AutoUpdate did not
   support proxy authentication while using
   Internet Explorer proxy settings.

   RESOLUTION:
This issue has been resolved for the beta 2
   refresh release.

KNOWN ISSUES

MOST IMPORTANT KNOWN ISSUES

1. You can only specify a mapped drive for
updating if you are logged on and have at
least read rights to that mapped drive. If
no one is logged on, or if you have
insufficient rights, the update will fail.

2. When installing on a computer running the
Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 (formerly
known as Windows .NET) operating systems, a
warning dialog box appears stating that a
driver is not signed and has not been
certified for Windows XP. If this occurs,
click "Continue Anyway" to proceed with the
   installation.

      WARNING:
YOU MUST CLICK "CONTINUE ANYWAY" AT THIS
POINT. If you do not, the On-Access
Scanner may not work on a subsequent
      installation.

      NOTE:
This beta driver has been tested for
      compliance with Windows XP requirements
but will not be signed until the final
      release of VirusScan Enterprise 7.0.

ePOLICY ORCHESTRATOR COMPATABILITY ISSUES

1. If you use ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 to
force installation of VirusScan 4.5.1 and
   VirusScan Enterprise 7.0, ePolicy
Orchestrator installs both products on the
client computer. Normally in this situation,
ePolicy Orchestrator should only install the
   more recent version, VirusScan Enterprise
   7.0.

2. When using ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 to
force installation of NetShield 4.5 for
Windows NT on a client system where
   VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 is already
   installed, ePolicy Orchestrator installs
   NetShield. Normally in this situation,
ePolicy Orchestrator should recognize that a
newer version already exists on the client
system and not install the older version,
   NetShield 4.5.

3. When adding the VirusScan Enterprise 7.0
policy to the software repository in ePolicy
Orchestrator 2.5.1, you may see the following
   messages:

- "Error downloading policy translation file for
VIRUSSCAN7000. Do you want to continue?"

- "Error downloading HTTP:\\...\POLICY.TPL. Do
   you want to continue?"

These are harmless messages that can be ignored.
If you see them, click "Yes" to continue adding
the policy to the repository. After clicking "Yes"
to both, you should see a confirmation message
that the policy was added successfully.

INSTALLING AND UPGRADING

1. Installing VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 over an
existing version of NetShield or VirusScan
does not work if the installation folder
path is longer than 200 characters, that is,
if your installation subfolder hierarchy is
very deep. If this is the case, VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 is installed without first
uninstalling the previous product. While an
error is recorded in the log, you do not see
an error during the installation that the
uninstallation of the previous product has
   failed.

2. Some install functionality is not present
when you install using MSIEXEC.EXE. In
particular, SETUP.EXE is used to perform an
upgrade or over-install of any McAfee or
competitors anti-virus product. If you do
use MSIEXEC.EXE to install VirusScan, you
must first remove any existing anti-virus
   products.

3. This release supports deployment using
   Administration Installation Points (AIP).
However, you must run SETUP.EXE from the AIP
to perform upgrades or to uninstall other
   anti-virus software, such as Norton
AntiVirus. Note that if you deploy
   VirusScan Enterprise via Active Directory
   group policies, which installs using
MSIEXEC.EXE, you must remove any existing
   anti-virus product prior to installing
   VirusScan Enterprise.

4. Installing VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 and
Alert Manager 4.7 over an existing
installation of VirusScan 4.5 and Alert
Manager 4.6 may cause the following errors:

   - "The specified resource language ID
cannot be found in the image file."

   - "Initialization of the dynamic link
      library C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON
      FILES\NETWORK ASSOCIATES\ALERT
      MANAGER\POWERP32.DLL failed. The process
      is terminating abnormally."

   NOTE:
VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 only works with
Alert Manager 4.7. It does not work with
   older versions of Alert Manager.

UPDATING AND MCAFEE AUTOUPDATE ARCHITECT

1. When editing the repository list to use a
UNC path, the Site Settings dialog box does
not validate that the path entered is in
fact a valid UNC share before accepting. Be
sure that you enter a valid UNC server,
share, and path name. Entering an invalid
UNC path could cause problems with updating
   from this location.

2. VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 does not support
updates using SuperDAT. For upgrades to
VirusScan Enterprise 7.0, use the new McAfee
   AutoUpdate component and McAfee AutoUpdate
Architect 1.0 software. See the VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 Product Guide and the McAfee
AutoUpdate Architect Product Guide for more
   information.

3. If Microsoft Outlook is open when updating
an EXTRA.DAT manually, for example by
copying it to the engine folder, you will
need to restart Outlook for the new
   EXTRA.DAT to take effect. VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 cannot use the new EXTRA.DAT
to clean incoming e-mail messages unless you
   restart Microsoft Outlook.

      NOTE:
      Updating EXTRA.DATs using AutoUpdate does
      not require restarting Outlook.

4. When updating, the VirusScan Enterprise 7.0
   AutoUpdate component does not consistently
clean up all temporary files and directories
   created during the update process.

SCAN ISSUES

1. VirusScan Enterprise cannot clean joke
   programs or potentially unwanted program
files. If you configure On-Access or
On-Demand scans to use the "Find potentially
unwanted programs" or "Find joke programs"
advanced scan options, any program or joke
files detected as infected cannot be
cleaned. If you have selected "Clean
infected files" as the primary action,
   VirusScan Enterprise automatically resorts
   to the secondary action.

Also, note that the actions "Delete infected
files" or "Move infected files to a folder"
can cause serious problems for legitimately
installed programs if program files are
moved or deleted. This may include the
program not functioning or error messages
   occurring frequently.

If VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 detects program
files as infected, it is recommended that
you completely uninstall and reinstall the
program. See the McAfee Virus Information
   Library for information on manually
   uninstalling potentially unwanted programs
   if that is required.

2. VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 is set by default
to scan "All files" to ensure the most
   secure anti-virus protection and best
coverage. Previous versions of VirusScan and
NetShield were set by default to scan
"Default" files only. For a comparable level
of protection and performance compared to
   past versions, configure VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0 to scan only "Default +
additional file types". Note, however, that
because of other performance enhancements to
this version of the software, leaving scan
options set to "All files" may not cause any
   noticeable performance difference compared
   to older versions.
