   - DAT Version: 4290
   - Engine Version: 4.2.60

=====================================================

Thank you for using the VirusScan Enterprise
software. This file contains important
information regarding this release. We strongly
recommend that you read the entire document.

   IMPORTANT:
McAfee Security strongly recommends that you
use any pre-release software (beta or
release candidate) in a test environment
only. Pre-release software should not be
   installed in a production environment.

McAfee Security does not support automatic
upgrading of a pre-release version of the
software. To upgrade to a later beta
release, a release candidate, or a
production release of the software, you must
first uninstall the existing version of the
   software.

NEW FEATURES

- Check Point(TM) VPN-1/Firewall-1 SCV
   integration. The VirusScan Enterprise
software has been updated to integrate with
   Check Point VPN-1/Firewall-1 SCV. When
installed and enabled, the Check Point
product can be configured to prevent clients
   without up-to-date anti-virus protection
from accessing the corporate network through
   the VPN.

- McAfee Installation Designer(TM) and McAfee
   Desktop Firewall(TM) integration. Use McAfee
   Installation Designer to configure McAfee
   Desktop Firewall with VirusScan Enterprise
7.1.0. This allows you to configure and
deploy both products together and reduce
restarts to a maximum of one.

- Smaller installation package. The VirusScan
   Enterprise installation package has been
   optimized using Netopsystems Fast
   Electronic Application Distribution (FEAD
   Optimizer) technology. This reduces network
bandwidth required in deployments. You can
use McAfee Installation Designer 7.1 to
   recompose the installation package, then
optimize it again after changes have been
made. When executing SETUP.EXE from the
command line, you can apply special commands
and switches to recompose the installation
   files.

   See the VirusScan Enterprise Installation
   Guide, for more information about
   configuring the Netopsystems FEAD
   Optimizer.

- Engine and DAT files are contained in the
Microsoft Installer (.MSI) file. The engine
and DAT files have been added to the .MSI
file for VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0. This
allows customers to deploy the product using
   a single .MSI file.

- Visibility of ePolicy Orchestrator tasks. If
you are using ePolicy Orchestrator 3.0 or
later to manage VirusScan Enterprise, you
can view ePolicy Orchestrator tasks for
on-demand scan, update, and mirror in the
VirusScan Console. This allows end-users to
see all tasks being run on their computers
and also allows administrators and help desk
operators to more easily debug ePolicy
   Orchestrator tasks over the phone.

_____________________________________________________
CHANGED FEATURES

- Detecting potentially unwanted or joke
   programs. The VirusScan Enterprise 7.10
   software changes how potentially unwanted
programs or joke programs are treated when
   detected. When VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0
detects a potentially unwanted or joke
program, no action is taken. Detections are
logged in the log file. This gives you the
opportunity to decide whether you want to
take action on the potentially unwanted or
joke program, and if so take the appropriate
   action.

This is a change from the VirusScan
   Enterprise 7.0.0 software where potentially
unwanted programs or joke programs could not
be cleaned, but they could be automatically
moved or deleted depending on the primary
and secondary actions you selected on the
   Actions properties.

INSTALLATION AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Please see product documentation for complete
information regarding installation and system
requirements.

INSTALLING LOCALIZED VERSIONS

VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 is available in
several languages. Note that each
foreign-language version of VirusScan
Enterprise can only be installed on an
operating system of the same language. For
example, you can only install the French
version of VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 on a
French version of Windows. However, the English
language version of VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0
can be installed on any supported operating
system in any language.

VIRUSSCAN ENTERPRISE 7.1.0 AND ALERT
MANAGER(TM)

VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 can only send alerts
to Alert Manager 4.7. It cannot send alerts to
older versions of Alert Manager.

Furthermore, VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 cannot
be installed on a computer where old versions
of Alert Manager, versions 4.5 or 4.6, are
already installed. If you are installing
VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 onto a system where
Alert Manager 4.5 or 4.6 is installed, you
should also install Alert Manager 4.7, which
automatically replaces the older version of
Alert Manager.

However, also note that Alert Manager 4.7 can
receive alerts from older versions of NetShield
and VirusScan. You can configure older versions
of these software programs to send alerts to an
installation of Alert Manager 4.7.

VIRUSSCAN ENTERPRISE 7.1.0 AND SUPERDAT
MANAGER

VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 does not support
updates using SuperDAT Manager version 1.4 or
earlier. To create SuperDAT packages for
VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0, only use the new
SuperDAT Manager version 1.6 or later.

VIRUSSCAN ENTERPRISE 7.1.0 AND WEBSCANX

Previous versions of VirusScan contained three
extra scan components that together were known
as WebScanX: E-mail Scan, Download Scan, and
Internet Filter. These components augmented the
scan capabilities provided by VirusScans core
On-Access and On-Demand scanners.

VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 retains the E-mail
scanning portion of WebScan X, but no longer
includes the Download Scanner or the Internet
Filter. The protection provided by Download
Scanner or the Internet Filter has been
incorporated into other components of the
VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 product. This allows
us to provide the same level of protection but
with a much smaller footprint and fewer
components to manage.

TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION

You can test the operation of the software by
running the EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File
on any computer where you have installed the
software. The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test
File is a combined effort by anti-virus vendors
throughout the world to implement one standard
by which customers can verify their anti-virus
installations.

To test your installation:

1. Copy the following line into its own file,
then save the file with the name EICAR.COM.

      X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 or 70 bytes.

2. Start your anti-virus software and allow it
to scan the directory that contains
   EICAR.COM.

When VirusScan Enterprise scans this file,
it will report finding the EICAR test file.

3. Delete the file when you have finished
testing your installation to avoid alarming
   unsuspecting users.

   IMPORTANT:
Please note that this file is NOT A VIRUS.

RESOLVED ISSUES

The following list describes issues from the
previous release of this software product that
have been resolved with this current release.

1. ISSUE:
Resumable scanning does not work for
on-demand scan tasks created and deployed
using ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 or ePolicy
Orchestrator 3.0. This occurs if the
   on-demand scan created in ePolicy
Orchestrator ends before the scan completes
   (due to a time-out, system shut-down, etc).
When the on-demand scan task starts again,
it begins scanning again at the beginning,
rather than resume from the last file
   scanned.

   RESOLUTION:
   Issue resolved. Resumable scanning works
correctly for on-demand scan tasks that are
   created and deployed using ePolicy
   Orchestrator.

2. ISSUE:
When a user with user rights (as opposed to
   an administrator with administrator rights)
rolls back DAT files, the following error
   occurs:

"Failed to save the version of the DATs
that have just been rolled back"

This means that VirusScan Enterprise failed
to create the correct registry key
identifying that the rollback has occurred.
Because of this, performing an update can
allow the rolled-back DATs to be reapplied.
This can cause problems if the rolled-back
DAT versions were indeed corrupted (usually
the reason for performing a DAT rollback).

   Normally, VirusScan Enterprise does not
allow updating of DAT versions that have
   been rolled back.

   NOTE:
This problem only occurs when a
   non-administrator performs the DAT rollback.
When administrators do it, the rolled-back
DAT versions cannot be applied through
   updating.

   RESOLUTION:
Issue resolved. Rolled-back DATs cannot be
   reapplied.

KNOWN ISSUES

ePOLICY ORCHESTRATOR(TM) COMPATABILITY

1. If you are planning to use ePolicy
   Orchestrator to manage VirusScan Enterprise
   7.1.0, you must use either:

   - ePolicy Orchestrator version 2.5.x.
   - ePolicy Orchestrator version 3.0 with
      Service Pack 1.

2. If you use ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 to
force installation of VirusScan 4.5.1 and
VirusScan Enterprise 7.0.0 or 7.1.0, ePolicy
Orchestrator installs both products on the
client computer. Normally in this situation,
ePolicy Orchestrator should only install the
   more recent version, VirusScan Enterprise
   7.0.0 or 7.1.0.

3. When using ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 to
force installation of NetShield 4.5 for
Windows NT on a client system where
VirusScan Enterprise 7.0.0 or 7.1.0 is
   already installed, ePolicy Orchestrator
   installs NetShield. Normally in this
   situation, ePolicy Orchestrator should
recognize that a newer version, VirusScan
Enterprise 7.0.0 or 7.1.0, already exists on
the client system and not install the older
   version, NetShield 4.5.

4. When you are adding the McAfee AutoUpdate
7.0 policy to the software repository in
ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 and you are
   prompted to enable software deployment,
   select "No."

If you select "Yes" the following errors may
   appear:

   - "Error downloading policy translation
file for VIRUSSCAN7000. Do you want to
      continue?"

   - "Error downloading HTTP:\\...\POLICY.TPL.
      Do you want to continue?"

Note that if you do select "Yes" and see
these errors, they are harmless and can be
ignored. After clicking "Yes" to both, you
should see a confirmation message that the
   policy was added successfully.

5. Tasks created from ePolicy Orchestrator
2.5.1 do not display in the VirusScan
Enterprise Console even though the "enable
task visibility" option was selected in the
   ePolicy Orchestrator 2.5.1 Network
Associates Program (NAP) file. This feature
is not available when using ePolicy
   Orchestrator 2.5.x to create tasks.

   NOTE:
This feature is available when using ePolicy
Orchestrator 3.0 or later to create tasks.

INSTALLING AND UPGRADING

1. To install the VirusScan Enterprise product
   using MSIEXEC.EXE, complete these steps:

   a. Extract the .MSI and other files by
entering this command at the command
      prompt:

      SETUP.EXE nos_ne [-nos_o"<output path>"]

      NOTE:
The nos_ne command extracts the setup
files from the SETUP.EXE but does not
execute the SETUP.EXE or delete the setup
      files.

      NOTE:
      The nos_o"<output path>" command
specifies the folder to which you want to
      extract the setup files.

If you do not specify the output path,
the files are extracted to the user
      profiles "Temp" folder.

   b. Ensure that any competitors products are
      removed.

   c. Run MSIEXEC.EXE by entering this command
      at the command prompt:

      "msiexec.exe /i vse710.msi

2. This release supports deployment using
   Administration Installation Points (AIP).
However, you must run SETUP.EXE from the AIP
to perform upgrades or to uninstall other
   anti-virus software.

To create an AIP, enter "setup.exe /a" at
the command prompt. A wizard appears to take
you through the process of creating the AIP.
When the AIP is created, all of the
necessary files in the compressed (.ZIP)
file are also copied to the AIP. This
   includes the SETUP.EXE, SETUP.INI,
UNINST.DLL, Engine, DATs, and the README.TXT
files. Since these files are automatically
copied to the AIP, the administrator does
not need to manually copy the files.

   NOTE:
If you deploy VirusScan Enterprise via
   Active Directory group policies, which
install using MSIEXEC.EXE, you must remove
any existing anti-virus product prior to
   installing VirusScan Enterprise.

3. When installing VirusScan Enterprise to an
   Intel 64-bit processor-based system, the
   VSUPDATE.DLL file does not register
correctly with the REGSVR32.EXE. As a
result, when an update is performed after
installation, an error occurs and the
   following error message is displayed:

"Error occurred while loading COM component."

To correctly register the .DLL, enter the
following command at the command prompt:

      "<drive>:\Winnt\syswow64\regsvr32.exe <installation path>vsupdate.dll"

      NOTE:
      If you are installing VirusScan
Enterprise to the default location, the
      installation path is:

      <drive>:\Program Files\Network
      Associates\VirusScan\

UNINSTALLING

1. When silently over-installing the Computer
   Associates eTrust Antivirus program, the
action is not completely silent. The
   Computer Associates eTrust Antivirus program
displays a message box stating that a reboot
is needed with an "OK" button. Once you
click the "OK" button, the over-installation
   continues normally. This problem is
referenced on the Computer Associates web
site under article QO19636. The web site
provides a downloadable file that fixes this
   problem. The problem references Computer
Associates eTrust Antivirus version 6.0, but
the fix also works for version 7.0.

UPDATING WITH AUTOUPDATE

1. Updating from a mapped drive only works if
you are logged on when the update occurs and
you have at least read rights to that mapped
drive location. If no one is logged on to
the system, or if you are logged on but do
not have at least read rights to the mapped
   location, the update fails.

2. When editing the repository list to use a
UNC path, the "Edit AutoUpdate Repository
List" dialog box does not validate that the
path entered is in fact a valid UNC share
before accepting it. Be sure that you enter
a valid UNC server, share, and path name.
Entering an invalid UNC path could cause
problems with updating from this location.

3. If updating an EXTRA.DAT file manually, for
example by copying it to the engine folder,
you must restart the VirusScan Enterprise
   E-mail, On-Demand, and On-Access scanners
before they can detect and use the new
   EXTRA.DAT file.

   - For E-mail Scan, close and then restart
      Microsoft Outlook.

   - For the On-Demand Scan, stop and re-start
the on-demand scanner using the VirusScan
      Enterprise Console.

   - For On-Access Scan, disable and then
re-enable the On-Access scanner using the
      VirusScan Enterprise Console.

      NOTE:
      Updating EXTRA.DATs using AutoUpdate does
      not require manually restarting
      scanners.

4. If you are using content scanning and
filtering software on your network, you may
experience some problems with updating. This
can occur if your content filtering software
   modifies a McAfee update package.

SCANNING

1. The VirusScan Enterprise 7.1.0 on-access
scannner may take action on data contained
in other McAfee Security anti-virus or
   security products quarantine folders unless
you exclude these folders from scanning. For
example, if you are using McAfee Security
GroupShield Exchange or IntruShield on the
   same computer where VirusScan Enterprise
   resides, their respective quarantine folders
may contain legitimate infected data. Those
quarantine folders should be excluded from
on-access scanning to avoid the possibility
of cleaning, deleting, or moving the
   legitimate infected data.

ALERT MANAGER COMPATIBILITY

1. When installing Alert Manager on a Windows
2003 (.NET) Server, alert messages do not
   automatically display in VirusScan
Enterprise 7.1.0. You must manually start
   the messenger service:

   a. Select
      Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services |
      Messenger

   b. Open the Messenger Properties dialog
      box.

   c. On the General tab under "Startup type,"
      select "Manual."

   d. Click "Apply."

   e. On the General tab under "Service
      status," select "Start."

   f. Click "OK" to apply the changes and close
      the Messenger Properties dialog box.
