ABOUT THIS RELEASE

PURPOSE

This HotFix is intended to fix the following
issues.

RESOLVED ISSUES

1. ISSUE:
Install CD reset passwords option leaves the
user unable to access the GUI.

    RESOLUTION:
The directory permissions were modified to allow
access to the password account files.

2. ISSUE:
The uninstall plugin script doesn't correctly
    uninstall a plugin.

    RESOLUTION:
The script responsible has been modified to
    correctly uninstall the plugins.

3. ISSUE:
The "Total viruses" on the dashboard shows "Data
Error" if any protocol is disabled.

    RESOLUTION:
The code responsible for handling this display
functionality has been modified to show the
    Total Virus count.

4. ISSUE:
The Load Sharing Memory per connection
configuration is not being saved and applied
    correctly.

    RESOLUTION:
The code responsible for handling this
read/write for Load Sharing Memory per
connection has been modified to ensure it
    accesses the correct configuration value.

5. ISSUE:
    Cannot load saved performance chart
    configuration files successfully.

    RESOLUTION:
The code responsible for handling the loading of
these saved configuration files has been
modified to enable it to correctly parse and
    load the files.

6. ISSUE:
High volumes of files in Quarantine can make it
possible for quarantine to appear full when
    space is still available

    RESOLUTION:
An unnecessary per user quota has been removed.

7. ISSUE:
Files stored in zip files for saved
configuration and logs are not compressed.

    RESOLUTION:
    These files are now compressed.

8. ISSUE:
The Performance graph scrolls faster than
configured, and does not fill the gap in. This
is because the history data size used is not
taking into account the time scale the user had
    selected

    RESOLUTION:
The history data size now correctly factors in
the time scale the user has selected.

9. ISSUE:
Spaces at the end of policy entries are not
stripped making it difficult to see what the
    exact policy data is.

    RESOLUTION:
A red highlight color and quotes have been added
to policy group values with leading or trailing
    spaces.

10. ISSUE:
The Performance graphs are showing a swap rate
greater than 0 on appliances that do not swap.
This is due to incorrect values being plotted.

    RESOLUTION:
The correct value for swap rate is now being
    plotted.

11. ISSUE:
When viewing a quarantined message on an
appliance with the language set to Japanese, the
reason for the message being quarantined seems
to have been corrupted. This is due to 8bit mime
headers being handled incorrectly by the
    quarantine service.

    RESOLUTION:
The correctly localized reason is now being
    used.

12. ISSUE:
Searching the quarantine area with non English
characters doesn't work. This is because the
    search charset was incorrectly set.

    RESOLUTION:
The search request to the quarantine service has
been modified to allow non-English characters to
    be used.

13. ISSUE:
The e1000 driver for Linux kernel 2.4.26 and
earlier does not properly initialize memory
before using it, which allows local users to
read portions of kernel memory. NOTE: this issue
was originally incorrectly reported as a "buffer
    overflow" by some sources (CAN-2004-0535)

    RESOLUTION:
A patched Kernel 2.4.26 is installed as part of
this HotFix to address the above issue.

14. ISSUE:
The dashboards show free space in 1k blocks and
the charts show disk space in 4k blocks.

    RESOLUTION:
The free space is now shown in 1k blocks.

15. ISSUE:
Even if FTP 8-Bit ASCII Blocking is disabled it
    is still being blocked.

    RESOLUTION:
The proxy has been modified to ensure that if
the option to block 8-Bit ASCII is disabled then
    it will not be blocked.

16. ISSUE:
A large number of messages in the deferred queue
causes the UI to report Out of Memory and fail.

    RESOLUTION:
A test for low memory during e-mail fetch
operation has been added to resolve this issue.
The fetch terminates if low memory is detected
preventing the 'out of memory exception'.

17. ISSUE:
Importing groups using LDAP will fail if any of
the following characters are used in the group
name (excluding the open and closing square
    brackets). [& " ' < >]. This is due to incorrect
formatting of these characters in XML causing
    corruption.

    RESOLUTION:
These characters are now correctly formatted
before being displayed, which will allow these
LDAP groups to be correctly imported.

18. ISSUE:
The Load Average values in the performance
charts are always displayed as zero.

    RESOLUTION:
The load average results now reflect true
    values.

19. ISSUE:
A possibility exists that a reporting channel
may cause the reporting process to hang.

    RESOLUTION:
A watcher has been placed on the reporting
process to ensure that it remains available.

20. ISSUE:
The WebShield appliance currently blocks FTP
requests where file transfers are different from
their intended client or server. This is a
security feature of WebShield. However this may
cause issues with certain network devices.

    RESOLUTION:
The ability to switch this security feature off
    has been added. See technote
    "HOWTODisableFTPPortMismatchCheck.rtf".

21. ISSUE:
The GUI allows the user to remove all intercept
and/or listen ports. There must however be at
least 1 listen port present, otherwise the proxy
    fails.

    RESOLUTION:
The GUI now prevents a user from removing all
    listen ports.

22. ISSUE:
If connectivity is lost between the client
machine and the appliance, the GUI appears to
    freeze.

    RESOLUTION:
A connectivity check has been added, so that, if
the connectivity is lost at some point, a dialog
    box is displayed indicating this.

23. ISSUE:
Changing to and from auto-negotiation of the
Network Interface Cards causes a reboot when
changes are applied, but the user is not warned
that this is going to occur.

    RESOLUTION:
A message is now displayed indicating the
    appliance will be rebooted.

24. ISSUE:
The default rule groups only contain the English
language groups, and cannot be changed to
    reflect the selected backend language.

    RESOLUTION:
Changing the backend language to something other
than English will now result in rule groups
containing the English language group and also
the newly selected language group. The new rule
group will not appear in the UI, until the user
applies the change and logs out and then back in
again. Once added to the rule group, the
language group will persist, and if required,
will have to be removed manually.

25. ISSUE:
It is not possible to forward mails from Virus
Quarantine, Content Quarantine or Deferred Queue
    to multiple recipients.

    RESOLUTION:
The forwarding mechanism has been updated to
allow a semi-colon separated list of recipients
to be entered to receive forwarded mails from
    the queues detailed above.

26. ISSUE:
Quarantined mails with null bytes in their
content fail to be put into the quarantine
    server.

    RESOLUTION:
Now these mails are put into the quarantine
server but the null bytes are stripped.

INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

To use this release, you must have WebShield(R)
Appliance V3.0 software installed on the computer
you intend to update with this release.

    NOTE:
This release does not work with earlier versions
    of WebShield(R) Appliance software.

INSTALLATION STEPS

To install this HotFix, follow these steps:

1. Create a temporary directory on your hard
disk and download the file WSehf208608.zip
from the McAfee website.

2. Extract the file WSe3HF208608-396.103.zip from
the
zip package (you may need a password from
McAfee support) to a location on your
network that can be accessed from the
WebShield appliance.

3a. If using WebShield Client program for Windows to
access the WebShield appliance, the current
version must be uninstalled via Control Panel
"Add/Remove Programs" and the new install program
   WebShieldClientWin32.exe should be extracted from
the WSehf208608.zip and run to install the new
   WebShield Client program.

3b. Open your Internet browser and browse to the
WebShield appliance, or use the WebShield Client
program to access the WebShield appliance.

4. Log in to the WebShield appliance when prompted
by entering your username and password. At this
point, you may get a dialog box indicating that
your software is out of date. This may be safely
ignored by clicking OK (this will not occur after
  the HotFix has been applied).

5. Select "Manage Components" from the System
menu.

6. Use the Component Install -> 'Install a selected
hotfix or service pack file' 'Browse' button, to
find the location of the HotFix file
  WSe3HF208608-396.103.zip and select 'Open'. A
popup will appear saying "This operation requires
an automatic log off which may cancel any changes
you have made! Do you want to continue?" - press
the "yes" button to install the HotFix. Please
note. Installing this HotFix requires the
appliances onboard web server to be restarted.
Normally this causes an automatic log off as
described in the popup. However, in some
instances the UI may display the text "ERROR
null" on the progress line. This can safely be
ignored by the user. If this occurs the user
should just logout and login again to complete the
  installation.

7. Once the HotFix is installed, select
'About WebShield' and ensure that the
correct HotFix number is displayed.

8. If a browser is being used to access the
appliance configuration, then the browser should
be shutdown, and the Java Cache cleared via the
  Java Control Panel.

9. If the Unix version of WebShield Client is being
used to access the appliance configuration, then
this has to be re-installed from the appliance.

NOTE:
If you plan to use the WSe3HF208608-396.103.zip
archive file again, keep it available on
your computer. Otherwise, delete the file
once the HotFix has been installed
successfully.

NOTE:
If you reinstall your WebShield V3.0
software, we recommend that you also
reinstall the HotFix.
