INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

To use this release, you must have WebShield
SMTP Version 4.5 Maintenance Release 1a (MR1a)
software installed on the computer you intend
to update with this Patch. All previous
Hotfixes are combined in this Patch.

   NOTE:
This release does not work with earlier
   versions of WebShield SMTP software.

INSTALLATION STEPS

Copy the file WSP0803.exe to a temporary
location. Run the file from the temporary
location.

It is a good idea to take backups of the
configuration data used by WebShield SMTP from
time to time. Saving the configuration with the
configuration tool will save all the commonly
used information, but there are other entries
in the system registry that are not saved by
this tool. These include new registry settings
included in Patch releases. To back up this
data, you should from time to time save the

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\TVD\WebShield SMTP\

registry key to a backup file. To do this,
start regedt32.exe and in the tree pane,
select the above key. From the "Registry"
menu, choose "Save key..."
and save to a file.

TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION

You can test the operation of the software by
running the EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test File
on any computer where you have installed the
software. The EICAR Standard AntiVirus Test
File is a combined effort by anti-virus vendors
throughout the world to implement one standard
by which customers can verify their anti-virus
installations.

To test your installation:

1. Copy the following line into its own file,
then save the file with the name EICAR.COM.

   X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 or 70 bytes.

2. Attach the file to an email and send it
through the server. When it is received
and scanned it will report finding the
   EICAR test file.

3. Delete the file email and when you have
   finished testing your installation to
   avoid alarming unsuspecting users.

   IMPORTANT:
Please note that this file is NOT A VIRUS.

REMOVING THIS PATCH

To remove this Patch from your computer,
remove the product using the Add/Remove
programs option in the Windows NT Control
Panel. If you wish to save your current
configuration, open the WebShield MR1a
Configuration Console and choose File, Next,
Save To File, and specify a name for your
configuration file.

   NOTE:
We recommend that you do NOT remove
the Patch file from your WebShield MR1a
installation once you have installed it. If
   you reinstall your WebShield MR1a
software, we recommend that you also
   reinstall the Patch.
