IMPORTANT NOTE

You must be using the 4.1.60 Scanning Engine
before you install this HotFix.

ABOUT THIS HOTFIX


PURPOSE

This HotFix is only appropriate for McAfee
products using the 4.1.60 Scanning Engine on
the following operating systems:

Windows 95b, 95c
Windows 98, 98SE
Windows Millennium

This HotFix updates the file MCSCAN32.VXD to
resolve the issues listed below.

RESOLVED ISSUES

1. ISSUE:
   A blue screen (BSOD) occurs with the
   following message:

      Fatal exception OE@0028:C819D845 in VXD MCSCAN32(01)+00048475

   The memory address may vary from machine to
   machine (the 0028:C819D845 section of the
   error)

   RESOLUTION:
   This HotFix replaces the file MCSCAN32.VXD
   with an updated version which prevents the
   error.

2. ISSUE:
   A blue screen (BSOD) occurs with the
   following message:

      Fatal exception 0E@0028:C15C6C8F in VXD MCSCAN32(01)+0004832F

   The memory address may vary from machine to
   machine (the 0028:C15C6C8F section of the
   error)

   RESOLUTION:
   This HotFix replaces the file MCSCAN32.VXD
   with an updated version which prevents the
   error.

3. ISSUE:
   The file MCSCAN32.VXD can occasionally cause
   excessive machine slowdown and system clock
   time loss in high demand situations.

RESOLUTION:
   This HotFix replaces the file MCSCAN32.VXD
   with an updated version which minimises the
   slow down and system clock time loss.

   Note:
   There are other possible causes for
   excessive system slowdown. Before applying
   this hotfix it must be determined that
   VirusScan On-Access Scanner settings are
   appropriate. It must also be determined that
   the slowdown occurs independently of the
   dats.

   If this hotfix does not resolve this issue
   it is recommended that you contact Network
   Associates Technical Support for advice.


FILES INCLUDED WITH THIS HOTFIX

This HotFix consists of a package called
ENG41601.ZIP, which contains the following
files:

      ENG41601.EXE =
            SuperDat package containing the
            updated version of MCSCAN32.VXD.
      HOTFIX1.TXT =
            This text file.
      VALIDATE.TXT = 
            Validate Code File


INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

To use this HotFix, you must have one of the
following products installed:

VirusScan 4.5.0 sp1
VirusScan 4.5.1 sp1
VirusScan TC

The 4.1.60 Scanning Engine is required for all
product versions before installation.

   NOTE:
   This HotFix does not work with earlier
   versions of the McAfee Virus Scanning
   Engine.

   This HotFix is not applicable for VirusScan
   ASaP. Customers using VirusScan ASaP who
   experience one of the resolved issues should
   contact Network Associates Technical Support
   for advice.


INSTALLATION STEPS

1. Extract the HotFix files from ENG41601.ZIP
   to a temporary folder on your hard drive.

2. Run the SuperDat package ENG41601.EXE

It is not necessary to use the /f switch with
the SuperDat package, this is integrated into
the SuperDat already.

REMOVING THIS HOTFIX

To remove this HotFix from your computer,
install any standard 4.1.60 SuperDat package
using the /f switch.

SuperDats are available from the download
section of the NAI website.

   We recommend that you do NOT remove the
   HotFix file once you install it. If you
   reinstall your point-product software, we
   recommend that you also reinstall the
